Who This Course is For
No prior hematology training is required; though a basic understanding of physiology is recommended.
Course Modules
Module 1 — Red Blood Cell Biology
Build a strong foundation with the science behind blood. Topics include the functions of blood, hematopoiesis across developmental stages, the role of cytokines, the detailed process of erythropoiesis, physiology of RBC membrane and metabolism.
Module 2 — Approach to Anemia
Develop a systematic clinical framework. Learn to classify anemias by RBC size, interpret reticulocyte counts, build differential diagnoses, and select appropriate investigations. This module also covers anemia of chronic disease.
Module 3 — Hematinic Deficiencies
A deep dive into the most common anemias encountered in clinical practice — iron deficiency, B12 deficiency and folate deficiency — including how to distinguish between them.
Module 4 — Hemoglobinopathies
Understand the genetic basis, clinical spectrum, and management of inherited globin disorders, including alpha thalassemia, beta thalassemia, and sickle cell disease.
Module 5 — Hemolytic Anemias
Cover the mechanisms and clinical presentations of red cell destruction, including hereditary spherocytosis, G6PD deficiency, and autoimmune hemolytic anemia.
