Associate Professor Dr. Mei I Lai is a dedicated academic and scientist whose career spans over two decades at the forefront of haematology education and research. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science from Universiti Putra Malaysia (2002) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Gene and Cell Therapy from the prestigious King’s College London (2007).
Following her doctoral training, Dr. Lai returned to Universiti Putra Malaysia, where she has built a distinguished career within the Haematology Unit, Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences; a testament to her deep commitment to advancing healthcare education in Malaysia.
Over the course of 19 years, she has shaped the minds of countless Medical, Biomedical Science, and Nursing students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Dr. Lai is widely recognised for her innovative pedagogical approach, championing the belief that complex haematological concepts can (and should) be accessible, engaging, and even enjoyable to learn.
This philosophy has inspired her current body of work, which sees her developing a suite of cutting-edge educational resources including interactive digital books, board games, websites, and mobile applications reimagining how the next generation of healthcare professionals engages with haematology.
In addition to her academic and research pursuits, Dr. Lai serves as the Editor-in-Chief of myhematology.com, bringing her passion for innovative, accessible health sciences education to a wider global audience.
